Unit 2: Drama
A Midsummer Night's Dream
You Are The Director
This assignment was very fun to do. We got a chance to critique and control how we would direct a play. None of us are experts at directing plays, but it was interesting to see how we would all want the players to act. A Midsummer's Night Dream is a play within a play, with the influence of love being one of the major themes. We also had to watch a video on 1.2 from the play, and critique it. The video that I watched was okay, but there were many things that I would change about it. I would want Bottom to be louder, and the actors in the back weren't doing to great.
Chaos and Confusion
In this assignment, we had to find quotes and relate them to our choice of imagery. This assignment was interesting to me because we got to see the metaphors and similes that Shakespeare uses. The use of imagery in his plays make it easier to understand and relate to the characters. We had to read 3.2, which is when Oberon realizes that Puck gave Lysander the juice instead of Demetrius. To make things right, Oberon gives Demetrius the juice, and that now means the Demetrius and Lysander are in love with Helena. Then, there is a whole fight between the four of them, which results in all of them parting ways. It's a quite funny scene, but it shows how contradicting love is. Love only works when you let it run it's course, and not interfere with it, which is what Oberon is doing.
Laughter and Celebration
This assignment was one of the most fun ones that we did. We had to pretend that we were Shakespeare, and we were responding to a rude critique letter. It was so fun to come up with insult that would be used in Shakespeare's time, and they were very interesting. This assignment also gave me a look into how hard it is to be a playwriter, because you have to be careful with what you put in your plays. I don't think that I would personally be able to do it, therefore I have major respect for anyone who writes plays or stories.
